Quick Summary
The Government has launched Special Campaign 6, led by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances. Its preparatory phase started on 16 September 2026 and ends on 30 September 2026. The main implementation phase will run from 2 October to 31 October 2026, covering cleanliness drives, e-waste disposal and clearing of pending matters.
Why It Matters
What Happened
Special Campaign 6 is a Government drive to clean up offices and clear pending work. The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) is the nodal department for it. The campaign is now in its preparatory phase, which began on 16 September 2026. The implementation phase will start on 2 October 2026 and end on 31 October 2026.
During the preparatory phase, ministries and departments named nodal officers for their campaign offices. They trained these officers on their roles. Teams reached out to field staff and listed pending references. They chose which offices will take part in the Swachhata (cleanliness) drive. They also checked how much electronic waste needs to be disposed and fixed the procedure for that. Plans were made for better use of office space, waste-to-wealth steps, and stronger record management. Old records to be weeded out were identified, and historical records were marked for preservation.
A second meeting with nodal officers was held to review this work. Secretary DARPG, Smt. Nivedita Shukla Verma, chaired the meeting. More than 40 senior officers joined in person, and over 800 officers joined online. They came from over 500 locations. Together they represented 84 ministries and departments, along with their PSUs and field offices. Shri Puneet Yadav, Additional Secretary, DARPG, presented the progress of the ongoing campaign.
Many ministries and departments shared their achievements from Special Campaign 5 and their plans for Special Campaign 6. These include the Department of Posts, Department of Financial Services, Department of Defence Production, Department of Military Affairs, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Mines, Central Board of Direct Taxes, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Why It Matters
This campaign pushes government offices to finish pending work and keep their spaces clean. It also helps them throw away e-waste safely. Better record management means you may face fewer delays when you visit a government office. Old files get removed, and important historical records get protected.
The campaign is tracked on a dedicated web portal. Every ministry and department must upload its targets on it. Awareness is being spread through print, electronic and social media. So far, 1,039 tweets have gone out with #SpecialCampaign6. Also, 54 PIB statements have been issued.
DARPG will bring out a collection of best practices from Special Campaign 6. This will be part of the Good Governance Week 2026 activities. The Secretary, DARPG, praised the efforts of officials and asked them to take the campaign to all PSUs, autonomous bodies and field offices, making it the biggest campaign ever.
